Lovelace Women’s Hospital is hiring a RN Lactation Consultant.  The RN Lactation consultant is responsible for applying professional clinical skills and expertise to the care and management of breastfeeding infants and lactating mothers.  Responsible for the development, promotion and implementation of lactation support services to clinical staff, patients and community members.  Adheres to policies, procedures and regulations to ensure patient safety and compliance. 

Assess the breastfeeding infant(s) and mother for milk transfer effectiveness and evaluate potential or existing challenges and factors that may impact breastfeeding.

Provide interventions for infant and mother to prevent and treat real or potential complications related to lactation and breastfeeding.

Use current evidence based practices in collaboration with the healthcare team to address individual feeding issues, while respecting family breastfeeding goals.

Evaluate, critique and demonstrate the use of techniques and devices which support and sustain lactation and breastfeeding.

Teach, coach, support and mentor families, patients, community members, clinical staff, credentialed providers and hospital employees to promote evidence-based clinical practice I the support of the mother baby dyad and infant nutrition

Produce educational materials, collateral and tools for staff, providers, patients and community on breastfeeding and infant nutrition topics.


Minimum education:  Associate’s degree or diploma of nursing.

Desired education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing; certification in clinical specialty

Intensified training in lactation

One (1) year of prior training and program development experience.


Valid NM Nursing License or NM Compact License

Current IBCLC or IBCLC exam scheduled within one year from date of hire.
